best from the week – may 15

In a new recurring blog post we will be collating the best articles and news in primarily women’s sport + other things we find super interesting.

AFLW trades are happening In a classic Collingwood move we traded Nicola Steven, our best and fairest, for draft picks. According to my AFLW expert (Freya) the next draft is full of the first lot of girls who never had to stop playing footy so that’s why teams will be looking to trade for picks.

More hot goss here

Port and Suns played in China and it took about 0.1 seconds for someone to be racist about it. Ol mate Spud made some super inappropriate comments on Bounce and compared the footy record to a Chinese menu. The pre-planning and thought that went into this casual racism is just shocking.

If you can stand watching it, there’s a video here (it’s painful)

Really interesting article by friend of the show Josh Pinn about sledging and a player/journo code of conduct. We discuss it in this week’s podcast but give it a read too! A lot to think about –

Star Melbourne player Jesse Hogan was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer. They caught it early on and Melbourne says they are hopeful he will make a full recovery. Our thoughts are with Jesse and his family. It’s so tough.

Shoutout to footy gospel podcaster, occasional like a girl guest and bff of our show DC for finishing her thesis on women’s sport!!! We are so proud

If you listen to this week’s episode you’ll know this meme fully sums up our Erin feelings
