Whoops, we seem to have missed a week there, so consider this a BUMPER SPORTS EDITION ALL ABOUT SPORTS.
Let’s start off with Roland Garos. Unsurprisingly Nadal won his TENTH French Open leading us all to believe that he has sacrificed a first born to the clay court gods. The surprise of the Open was unseeded women’s player Ostapenko got up to win against world number 3 Halep. Which she won TWO DAYS after her 20th birthday. What were you doing when you were 20? Not that.
(but also look at Nadal holding that trophy)
AFLW 2019 submissions were due Friday 16 June with the AFL received bids from Essendon, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast. This article gives a great overview of the submissions made.
It is still unclear what the provisional licenses that Geelong, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast receive mean with 3 new teams bidding for a spot for the 2 or maybe 4 positions (again not confirmed). Totally unlike the AFL to be super unclear on this (eyeroll emoji) but hopefully they can get some sort of plan in order for 2019.
WISHES HAVE BEEN GRANTED with Thurston and Slater both being named in the Queensland State of Origin team for game two on Tuesday night.
Cool carpet dudes
PS: The Queensland Women’s state team has also been named for their July 23rd match – with many women hoping to show of skills to get a spot in the Jillaroos pre-world cup
AND FINALLY Sunshine Coast Lightning won the inaugural Super Netball competition grand final against the Giants. This tweet does make a point though
MEME OF THE WEEK
